ARNPEI Council Meeting, April 9, 2010
Dr. Kali Simmonds presented to Council on the role of naturopathic doctors and collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
Chester Gillan has been reelected as public representative on the CNA Board.
The province has approved a RN role description in the model of care. The Education Build Team is developing a needs assessment for RN education. ARNPEI provided presentations to the nurse managers of the showcase units and staff employed in the showcase units. Two Letters to the Editor (The Guardian) were submitted clarifying the ARNPEI role in the model of care.
ARNPEI met with Minister Bertram. Issues discussed included the role of the RN in the new model of care, Community Hospital, the need for more NPs, and internationally educated nurses.
The PEI Health Sector Council sponsored a Quality Worklife; Quality Healthcare Forum with Barb Fry on March 24.
ARNPEI Annual Meeting - Rodd Charlottetown Hotel (April 30)
Jackie Doran-MacLeod, Consultant, Adult Protection, will be the speaker for the education session.
Cheryl Doran (President-Elect), Marlene Robichaud (Vice-President), Wendy Poole (Eastern Kings), Maridee Garnham, Carol Chipman-Francis (Queen’s County).
Melinda Mulligan will receive the Outstanding Achievement Award.
National Nursing Week - Nursing: You can’t live without it! (May 10-16)
ARNPEI will be preparing a message for Eastlink TV and the newspaper. There will also be a proclamation by the Minister of Health in the House.
CNA Biennial Convention 2010 (Innovation in Action: The Power of Nursing)
ARNPEI is sponsoring 10 members to attend the Biennium in Halifax (June 7-9): Cheryl Doran, Brenda Worth, Colleen Bannon, Terri Styles-MacKinnon, Susan Taylor McConnell, Meghan MacDonald, Lisa Vessey, Berthe Melanson, Diane Boswall and Stacy Chaisson.
Professional Conduct Review
Paul provided an update on a complaint currently being investigated by Melinda Mulligan. Melinda will be retiring as ARNPEI’s investigator after 10 years. Two additional complaints have recently been received. Phyllis Johnson and Mary Hughes will investigate these complaints.
Revisions to ARNPEI’s policy Release/Publication of Information were approved.
Nursing Education Program Advisory Committee
Anita McCabe and Joe Murphy were approved as new members of the Nursing Education Program Advisory Committee and the Professional Conduct Review Committee.
