ARNPEI Council Meeting April 8, 2011
Brenda Payne, Interim Chief Nursing Officer & Director of Clinical Practice, Health PEI, provided an update on the CNO position. It is anticipated the position will be advertised in May.
The ARNPEI Model of Care Committee circulated Recommendations for Determining RN Educational Needs for Model of Care to Brenda Payne, Health PEI. Marlene Robichaud has agreed to represent ARNPEI on the Provincial RN Education Working Group.
Mary Hughes has been hired to provide presentations to Health PEI Leadership Committee on the ARNPEI Standards for Nursing Practice and the CNA Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses.
Marilyn Barrett will bring greetings from ARNPEI to the PEI Nurses Union Annual Meeting on May 18.
Marilyn Barrett encouraged Councillors to view CNA’s Election 2011 on their website www.cna-aiic.ca. She also circulated two CNA documents - Harm Reduction and Currently Illegal Drugs: Implications for Nursing Policy, Practice, Education and Research and Registered Nurses: On the Front Line of Wait Times - Moving Forward.
ARNPEI’s Strategic Plan
MacPherson Roche Smith & Associates has developed a proposal for a strategic plan that would also include a communication strategy. Council accepted the proposal.
Annual General Meeting (April 29, 2011, Rodd Charlottetown Hotel)
The educational theme is Nurse Fatigue. Barb Mildon, CNA President-Elect, will provide a presentation on Nurse Fatigue followed by a panel presentation including RNs on PEI. Lisa Ashley, CNA Policy Consultant, will be participating in the panel. Barb will also provide an update on CNA’s new toolkit on primary care.

ARNPEI has partnered with the Health Sector Council to develop a short Public Service Announcement to be aired on Eastlink and CBC television during National Nursing Week.
Public Relations Committee
An Expression of Interest was issued in February to Island media companies for the development of a Public Service Announcement branding registered nurse practice in PEI. Five RFPs have been received and are presently being reviewed.
Nurse Practitioner Diagnostic and Therapeutics Committee
Susan Chappell was appointed to replace Melanie McCarthy who is now an NP.
Professional Conduct Review
Cynthia Bryanton was appointed as Chair of the PCR Committee. Dorothy Doyle was appointed as a new public representative.
